Student Learning - Whatever It Takes!

July 2016

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:

Greetings from Horace Mann Middle School!  I hope all of you are enjoying your summer recess and are looking forward to the start of the upcoming school year.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the details surrounding the registration process.  Schedule pick up days are July 27, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and August 1, 2016, from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Horace Mann Middle School in the Cafeteria (use the 13th Street entrance doors).

Upon arrival, you’ll be given a printed emergency sheet to update.  Please know the emergency sheet must be completed and signed prior to your child receiving a class schedule.  Therefore, it’s imperative that a parent or guardian attend schedule pick up with their child.

Enclosed is the Student Health Information Sheet, which needs to be completed and returned for all 6th grade students.  This form should also be completed for any 7th or 8th grade studentonly if there has been a change in their health, which allows us to update our records.  A medication consent form is also supplied if needed.

Bus tickets will be available to purchase from Metro Ride, and if your child rides the yellow bus and you have not already mailed in the Yellow School Bus Registration Form, we have enclosed the form for you.  If you do not return this form, your child will not be scheduled for yellow bus service.  This form needs to be completed every school year for First Student.

We’ll take school pictures at schedule pick up as well.  The student picture is for the yearbook, school ID and for personal portrait packages.  Therefore, students are encouraged to attend registration and wear clothing appropriate for our school dress code.  Thanks for your cooperation.

School officially begins on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at 7:35 a.m.  6th graders will report to the cafetorium and 7th & 8th graders will report to their homerooms.  The building opens daily at 7:30 a.m., and as always, breakfast is served at 7:10 a.m.

Lastly, we extend a warm welcome to our incoming 6th graders.  I know you’ll enjoy your new school home.  Take advantage of the many opportunities Horace Mann provides.  A great way to learn more is to attend Horace Mann’s Open House on Tuesday, August 30, between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.
