Student Learning - Whatever It Takes!

Welcome to the 2017-18 school year!  This year, Horace Mann Middle School celebrates its 25th year.  We not only celebrate 25 years of a beautiful building, but also the amazing work accomplished by our staff and our students.  Year after year, our staff develops plans to reach all students.  Plans have been tweaked, thrown away, and we have been known to start anew.  Nevertheless, the one constant is that our staff never gives up on on students.

For 25 years, we have sent our students onto high school prepared in academics, confident in themselves, and ready for their next challenges.  For example, our 8th grade class from last year came into our building three years ago.  As 6th grade students, just under 42% of the students were reading at grade level.  By the time they left our building as 8th grade students, over 74% of students met the mark.  Our current 7th and 8th grade students also entered the building with similar reading levels but are on track to exceed the previous years’ results.

As for individual success stories, there are countless-- just ask any adult in this building.  As we embark on Horace Mann’s 25th year, I can’t wait to see more of these successes.  Will it be your child?  Will it be your child’s best friend, a neighbor, a relative, a quiet child, a child who gets into some trouble?  The answer to all of these is YES.

Thank you, parents/guardians, for your support in our endeavors as we strive for all students to have their own success story this school year.
